Bettany Hughes discusses the unique challenges and surpises of filming and researching the ancient history of Jordan across multiple TV series, and what value the historical investigation of the past has in the present. Bettany Hughes reflects on how her time spent in Jordan has enabled her to find remarkable culture and brand new discoveries, to celebrate neglected voices and stories, and to understand how archaeology has shaped our understanding of humankind today.
Bettany Hughes OBE is a multi award-winning historian, author and broadcaster, who has devoted the last 25 years to the vibrant and inclusive communication of the past. She has pioneered, and campaigned for, female voices on international TV and is an ardent champion of inclusivity, diversity and change and was the first female historian ever to present a history series on the BBC. She has written and presented over 50 TV and radio documentaries for the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Discovery, PBS, The History Channel, National Geographic, BBC World, Channel 5 and ITV, a number award-winning. Her programmes are regularly watched by over 500 million worldwide.
