April 2021 Webinar: A window on Jordan’s heritage: untold stories from the ACOR (American Center of Research) Photo Archive
April 22, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join us for another of our “In Conversation” series of educational webinars prepared by Jack Green, Associate Director at ACOR and Jessica Holland, Archival Projects Consultant at ACOR.
They say that every picture tells a story. If that’s the case, there are thousands of stories waiting to be told and retold from these photographic archives. This lecture will show examples of the value and potential role these archives in Jordan have for different kinds of educational use and research and the general importance of online image archives given the plight of cultural heritage. The ACOR Photo Archive at the American Center of Research, Jordan, is an open-access database containing over 30,000 images from the collections of Jane Taylor, Rami Khouri, Kenneth Russell, Nancy Lapp, former directors of ACOR, among others. With images from across the Middle East, Jordan is at the core of the collection, capturing important images of archaeological sites and landscapes such as Petra and Jerash over time, architecture and urban growth, nature and ecology, people and events, as well as changing ways of life between the 1940s up to the early 2000s.
Here we will see just how much society and places have changed, and how photographic archives can serve as important points in preserving memories and communicating knowledge from the recent past into the present.
