The start of November saw a number of delegates from the Jordanian Tourism industry arrive in London to participate in the annual World Travel Market event. Staged annually at London’s Excel centre, WTM is a vibrant must-attend business-to-business event presenting a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors to 50,000 global travel professionals. Worldwide buyers and sellers from every sector of the travel industry come together at WTM.

The Jordanian delegation was headed by His Excellency Nayef Al Fayez, the Minister of Tourism.

Numerous meetings were held over the four day event on the impressive Jordan stand, with tour operators, travel agents, media and senior media influencers.

The event also saw His Excellency lead a press conference addressing the misperception of safety in Jordan head on, and giving details from the tourism board about how this is to be addressed in the UK market. Jordan was placed as a key destination within the wellness sector, with JTB Managing Director Dr Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat speaking on the panel of ‘The Trailblazers of Tourism’ wellness seminar.

The stand was also busy with activity promoting the diversity of Jordan’s appeal and celebrating key events coming up for 2016.

The coming year will see the 100th anniversary of the Arab revolt,  immortalised by the film Lawrence of Arabia, which inspired a photo competition with a photograph of Lawrence of Arabia, where the winner stands to spend a coveted holiday to Jordan.

There was also an on-stand astronaut, following the recent depiction of Wadi Rum on screen as Mars in award-winning film ‘The Martian,’ starring Matt Damon.

The country will host the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2016, and a member of the team was invited to the Jordan stand, performing impressive football tricks which delighted the attending crowd.
